Used Car Prices Are Lower Than Ever, And There Is A Good Reason Why

ID-10041789

Did you know that when new car sales go up, prices on used cars go down? It’s true! In 2014, new car sales were up, and there were more affordable used cars for all price ranges. The reason is that most people purchasing new cars were trading in their last cars to put towards a down payment, and as a result, there is a better variety of cars available for smart shoppers.

The good news is that new car sales are continuing to hold strong so far in 2015. According to CNN Money, car sales are the best they have been in almost a decade, and it is showing no signs of slowing down. This means that more used cars will be hitting the market soon, and with low, low gas prices, owning a car is cheaper than it has ever been.

Tips on Purchasing a Used Car

ID-100215036

Buying a used vehicle can sometimes be a hassle.  It all depends on how much knowledge you take into the dealership.  The best way to walk away with the best car and the best deal is to have as much information as you possible can.  The educated consumer walks away happy.  Here is some tips on what can help to provide an informed experience to the dealership.

*Investigate the car’s history

Be ready to do some checking into the background of the vehicle.  Run a history report on the car.  Be warned though, sometimes it is just impossible to tell the quality of the vehicle unless someone tears it apart and checks each part.  You are buying a used cars, complications can arise no matter how well checked and verified the vehicle is on the lot.

*Learning how to negotiate

This is easy said than learned.  Proper negotiation takes practice.  With cars, it is hard to get this practice due to the nature of buying a car doesn’t happen too often.  That means it is best to learn from others experience.  Speak with relatives and with friends who went through the process and see if they have any advice on what to do and what to avoid.

*Know your stuff

This is a general catch-all net of knowing where you stand on your credit.  Credit score and history is the king of being able to get a better rate.  It can never be said enough the importance of regular check-ups on credit scores to ensure everything is accurate.

Questions to Ask to Get the Right Car

ID-100176217

The part of buying something major is the idea that I might get it wrong.  Be it a smartphone or a TV, I look at consumer reports and reviews constantly to prep myself so that I make the right decision the first time.

This cycle can get maddening, this idea that a purchase is so important that I can’t afford to screw it up.  Now put that pressure onto a car purchase and it is a wonder someone can come in and drive off the lot without checking into a nearby hospital with suspected ulcers from the stress.

Jalopnik seems to understand the stress that goes into wanting to not make the wrong decision which is why they have pointed out how to avoid getting the “wrong” car.

The difficulty of carbuying advice is there is no “one size fits all” approach.  For example, their first episode of Car Matchmaker had a person wanting a convertible.  After test-driving a Mustang GT drop-top, he decided against his original desire and went with a Challenger instead because of how the car felt to him.

This happens often to many people when it is time to make the actual decision.  Jalopnik compiled a list of what to keep in mind so that you do not buy the “wrong” car when that time comes in including:

“How much do you drive?”

“What do you need your car to do?”

“What are your must have features?”

“What kind of driving/ownership experience do you want?”

“Actually drive the darn thing.”

Check out the full article to get the full details on each segment but each of these questions are incredibly important ones to have an answer for.  By knowing what you expect from a car, you can at least gauge and narrow a search on which car suits your and your budget.
